RJD vice-president Shivanand Tiwary gets 1 year in jail in defamation case; granted bail

RJD vice president Shivanand Tiwary has been sentenced to one year in prison and fined Rs one lakh by a Patna court in a criminal defamation suit filed by Bihar minister Sanjay Kumar Jha. Tiwary, a former state minister, was granted provisional bail and has 30 days to appeal. Jha filed the suit in 2018, objecting to Tiwary's comments about his relationship with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Tiwary, a veteran socialist leader, has known both Kumar and Lalu Prasad for nearly five decades.
